Our story
In 2013 we moved to the UK from Japan to found copywriting and marketing translation agency WeDoJapan. We are based in the beautiful town of Frome (rhymes with Rome) in the South-West of England.
Tony McNicol
Tony grew up in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bath in the South West of England. After a traditional education that ended with a degree in Classics (Latin and Ancient Greek) from Cambridge University, he decided to experience a completely different culture and learn a living language for a change. That led him to Japan, where he lived for 15 years. He studied Japanese at Tokyo University, then spent 10 years working as a freelance journalist and photographer, travelling all over Japan in the process. Towards the end of his time in Japan, he worked as an editor for the European Chamber of Commerce and as a content creator for Nissan.
In 2013, Tony and Yoshie decided to swap Tokyo’s concrete for rural Somerset and return to the UK with their young children. Since co-founding copywriting and translation company WeDoJapan with Yoshie, Tony has drawn on his Japanese culture and language expertise to collaborate with clients in Japan, the UK and worldwide.
Yoshie Harimoto
Yoshie was born in the famous pottery town of Seto in central Japan. She first travelled to the UK in her early 20s to study English. She has worked in many different translation roles, from facilitating the trade of nuclear materials to helping market clothes for Japanese dogs. She loves cooking, eating, and playing the ukulele. She also enjoys travel, including virtual travel from her work desk while leading translation quality assurance for a major global travel industry company.
